In 1916, Master Gichin Funakoshi hade his first Karate tour in the City of KYOTO, in 1922, he made another presentation, this time in Tokyo, capital of Japan, in the presence of the greatest masters of martial arts, which helped to further disseminate his style of karate ( Shotokan ).
In 1936 , he founded his first FUNAKOSHI academy of karate called Shotokan, which later gave rise to the name of the style he created. After FUNAKOSHI was successful doing demonstrations of his style of karate, many teachers of other styles decided to do the same and went to various cities in Japan and other countries. That is why today there are many styles of karate.
The symbol of our style, which is the SHOTOKAN , is represented by two circles , one larger and a smaller all-white all red. The white circle represents the moon and the lowest being red represents the sun. The sun shines , gives light and heat, the moon inspires peace and love and all this together means the harmony of nature. That is the philosophy of karate : the harmony of mind and body, and man with nature.
